Entertainment Weakly Lures Suckers With TESB Cover

The folks at starwars.com have no pride. After over 10 years' worth of trashing all things Star Wars, trashing George Lucas, giving all of the prequel films bad reviews, and rewarding the CW movie with an "F," EW publishes a tribute to TESB's 30th and starwars.com cheerfully promotes it. Remember when things were so bad between EW and Lucasfilm, EW apparently didn't get to go to a press screening of ROTS? Remember when EW claimed that a young boy thanking Lucas at Celebration III was a staged stunt? I do. All of that and more. I've refused to buy a single issue of that magazine since 2000 and this isn't going to change my mind now.

All of those rare pix? You can find them on the internet for free. There's even a Facebook page dedicated to rare vintage SW pictures. The book excerpt will be in "The Making of the Empire Strikes Back," which I'm sure many of you are going to buy anyway. As for the rest of it, who cares what some staffer at EW thinks of TESB? I already know it's the only SW movie they think is worth anything because they've said so over and over.

EW can kiss my butt.

EW Sucks

I too stopped buying that rag years ago. I also boycott the websites IESB.net and Chud.com because no matter what they are reviewing or reporting they always manage to work in a slam on Lucas or the prequels.

Screw 'em. I will not spend a dime on that stupid rag, and I know that their tribute to the only SW movie that they think is worth anything (and even that is a relatively recent development; I remember in the early '90s, it referred to the OT movies as "no-brainers") will be just as much a snipe session at all the other SW movies.

I can guess what will be in the issue: plenty of glorification of ESB at the other movies' expense; wistful remarks about how ROTJ and the PT could have been as good as ESB had Lucas "just stayed out of them"; brown-nosing, allegedly "rare" interviews with David Prowse and Gary Kurtz ("rare," my Aunt Fanny -- both of them have diarrhea of the mouth when it comes to saying everything the bashers want to hear) in which they talk about how ESB is SW for grownups, and look what's happened to it since; and plugs for the "documentary" The People vs. George Lucas.

SW.com is promoting this issue? Well, is that really surprising? They announced that 2010 would be the Year of ESB, which "everyone agrees is the most awesome SW movie."

No thanks. I love ESB but I am effing SICK of it being used as a bludgeon against the other movies...and sw.com going along with it.

ESB is great, but it's nothing without the other two movies in the trilogy. It's like only liking the middle chapters of a book. And as for EW, well, the abbreviation speaks for itself. Hardly worth the paper it's printed on.

I stopped even considering that magazine good reading material after they called the twilight sage and movies one of the best ever written and made. Anyone who considers stalking, abuse and pedophilia good stuff automatically gets sent to the chokey.

Word.

And re: your icon, great use of that shot! :D

Don't read Entertainment Weekly for many reasons, their opinion of Star wars and George Lucas is among the least of them. An awful rag of a magazine, seriously.

Anyway, print's dead. EW will soon go the way of New Coke, and good riddance to them...
