I always think of Disney's Robin Hood. The voice actor for Robin himself, the hero, spends the majority of the film doing other voices: Robin as the female fortune teller, Robin as the blind beggar, etc. Robin the dashing hero is only one voice among many. Nowadays it's the celebrities who are hired to voice the heroes and I highly doubt they'd be up to the challenge of voicing Robin!
