A long time ago = around 1776 A.D.

On Saturday, while rearranging a box full of SW-related catalogues, newspaper clippings, and magazine articles, I came across a real gem my friend Derek sent a few years ago when ROTS came out. It was a clipping from a magazine called Zoo, which appears to be some kind of British t&a publication. It included a timeline of events in the SW universe, which isn't at all unusual, but there's more. It included a parallel timeline of real life events on our humble little planet Earth! I bet you didn't know until now that Yoda was born in 898 A.D. or that the Alliance defeated the Empire just one year before George Washington's death. At the very moment Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence, Luke and Leia were born on Polis Massa…talk about synchronicity! Would this mean that the Legacy comics take place in the 1920s and Cade is like 98 years old now? Here's a sampling:

4206 B.C.--The Sith Empire comes to an end

794 A.D.--Darth Bane starts the rule of two

1594--Chewbacca is born

1702--Qui-Gon is born

1712--Palpatine is born (I had no idea Palpie was supposed to be younger than Quiggy...wth??)

1737--Obi-Wan is born

1750--Padmé is born

1772--The events of AOTC

1775-76--The events of ROTS (??!!)

1794--The events of ANH

1797--The events of TESB

1798--ROTJ

How the @#$@# did they come up with this??!!

Hmm, wasn't Qui-Gon supposed to be 60 or so around TPM? I guess when you're not hermiting on Tatooine and/or recovering from apprenticing Anakin Skywalker, Jedi actually age pretty well. Better than Dark Siders, anyway. ;)

But Padme was 12 in TPM? Eh?

I believe Qui-Gon was originally intended to be sixtyish, but have the impression he was made younger when Liam Neeson was cast in the role... but I suppose I thought "clean living and the 'light side' of the Force" when I first saw the arrangement of birthdates (and then thought of how we eventually learned Ned Flanders is older than he looks)... All in all, though, I have no idea where this little timeline came from, and don't intend for it to shape my opinions from here on.

I still can't wrap my head around using the Julian calendar to mark the events of the SW saga. How did they determine that most of the movies took place in our 18th century??

I'm glad you liked the stuff I sent you!

"Zoo" is a weekly magazine that is full of entertainment news, football (soccer) stuff and glamour models showing themselves off. It's still going (I read through last week's in WHSmith yesterday lunchtime!) although I'm convinced magazines don't sell as well as they used to, thanks to the glorious internet.

Oh, I saw Indiana Jones for the second time at the weekend! :) I want to see Kung Fu Panda next - looks great fun!

Cool!

That clipping provided some laughs. Thanks ;).
