TESB-O-Rama

Spike TV is running the first three SW flicks all day on Saturday in honor of the 30th anniversary of TESB. TESB will be broadcast on a big t.v. thingie in Times Square if you happen to be in NYC at 4 p.m. EST. Spike also has a bunch of special ads for the occasion here:

That's nice. It'd be a lot nicer if there had been similar "all out" celebrations for the original movie's 30th anniversary in 2007. And whether or not the people in charge of this celebration intend it or not, it feels like a slap at the other movies, as if it's a universally accepted fact that ESB is "the best," and everyone agrees it's head and shoulders above all the other SW movies.

As I've said many times before, I agree that it's the best, and it's above the other SW movies -- but nowhere near "head and shoulders" above them. In fact, I think it's only about a finger's width above TPM, maybe three fingers' width above AOTC, ROTS and ANH, and maybe a hand's width above ROTJ.

Hmmm...I think I'll post about this on my own LJ, since I have a lot more to say.
