More Meshuggah On A "New Trilogy"
Mommy, make it stop!
This is the second time this year some dope tried to spread a rumor there's a new "trilogy" on the way. Today it was IESB.net posting a blind item from an unnamed "super top secret insider" that there's a new set of movies in the works, due for release sometime after all of the existing films have been released in 3D. It makes total sense, right? Didn't they put the Special Editions out in advance of new movies?
Ah, but back then we knew there would be more movies. We'd known since the early '90s.
There are so many things off about this rumor, I have no idea why IESB.net ever posted it and why Wired.com jumped so quickly to report it. This new trilogy allegedly wouldn't involve the Skywalker family (what's it going to be about, Jawas?) and that it would "probably" be set in the Star Wars universe. Well, where would a Star Wars movie take place? Middle Earth? Even more absurd is the story that it might start with Episodes 10, 11, and 12, mysteriously skipping 7-9. WTF? Why, so Lucas can go back at age 100 and finally do that gap trilogy everybody's been dying to see? Will it explain why the Skywalkers were suddenly dropped?
This nonsense drew so much traffic to IESB.net, the site crashed and some poor schlub at Lucasfilm had to take time out of his weekend golf game or whatever to deny this preposterous story, which Wired.com posted.
Guys, repeat after me...NO MORE MOVIES. Got that? Yes, we'll see lots more Clone Wars, Seth Green's upcoming comedy series, and once they figure out the money aspect of it, that mythical live action show. We will see the six films in 3D shortly. But if Lucas were to wake up tomorrow with the idea of making more movies, it will be several years away and the man is now 66 years old. Give it a rest.

What gets me is the "probably" set in the SW universe. I can't tell whether to laugh or roll my eyes.

Then finally Star Wars (if not it's creator) would be redeemed.
*Sigh!*
This story will continue to rear it's head at odd intervals, until the day George Lucas dies, and probably not even then.
*Lame!*

Maybe they meant that the Red Tails movie was going to finally come out after the 3D releases and in 3 parts. We've been hearing about that for so long that that would make more sense than a new SW trilogy. :)

And then, too, hell, it's like - so they were all clamouring ad nauseam, apparently, for Lucasfilm to make some kind of official statement about these utterly BS rumours (maybe only giving such ass-backwards rumours far more legitimacy than they actually deserve, to even deign any kind of response to it, but this is one instance when LFL was in between the proverbial rock and the hard place....damned if they said anything and damned if they didn't, evidently) - and then LFL came right out and good and promptly debunked the rumour, said of course it was totally unfounded, *not* true, how completely absurd!....and then those same folks clamouring for a response promptly go right ahead and don't believe it anyway-!....and the fact that there really *won't* be any more theatrically-released movies a la the Saga's six, they're just gonna have to *deal* with it....come back to reality, face facts, and accept it.
And if for whatever deluded reason they don't want to, then could someone *please* just get them the heck off the internet and out of my fandom in particular?!?! Yeesh! :)

I do find it utterly impossible to believe, then, that even the supposedly-vaunted (!!!) IESB.net in this instance has just never, no, absolutely *never* bruited about any completely unfounded, out-of-left-field-ludicrous rumours as fact, and at the time even apparently "sworn" by it only to soon enough have it proven that they were, of course, totally full of it.... Like for starters, well, what about - just *all* the totally ridiculous casting rumours at one time or another surrounding the PT as it was being developed and made?...."Leonardo DiCaprio", supposedly such a lock for Anakin, for instance - these sites were *swearing* by their info at the time and promised it was good as gold....but, gee, we all know what happened *then*.... And so indeed it will prove the very same, it actually already *has*, with this same rumour....yet again....for like the zillionth time now. Aaaaarghle bargle, already.... :)

*sigh* Why must some irresponsible person always have to stir the pot?
