Aug. 13th, 2004 08:13 pmI've caught wind (hack, wheeze, choke) of "fans" accusing Papa George of hypocrisy because he doesn't like the colorization of old "Three Stooges" features for DVD format. Anyone who has been a SW fan for a long time knows George has been adamantly against colorizing classic black and white films, so for me, it's nothing new. But the "fans," quick to accuse George of anything and everything, stammer about how Lucas has changed "their" precious SW films so how dare he say anything about Warner Bros. or whatever studio it was colorizing Moe, Curly, Larry, and Shemp. The logical distinction--that it's Lucas himself making changes to movies he made (you know, a "director's cut") versus a copyright holder making the changes long after the creators have died--eludes them. But logic tends to elude fandom as a whole. Gee, wonder why I haven't been particularly anxious to find new SW fans to hang with here. Speaking of which, I saw today a guy in line at a liquor store (I was buying a soda, okay??) with a Rebel insignia tattoo. I'm about the only person in this town without a tattoo (and don't want one) but if you're going to mark up your body, why not go with SW?
