A happy birthday to Carrie Fisher :).

The Cards are going to the show! Yay! Why should I care? Well, I don't care that much. But since I went to school in Missouri and most of my friends there were from St. Louis, I rooted for the Cardinals. After all, the Florida Marlins didn't make it, the Padres did all right but didn't make it, Baltimore...forget it, and Washington, D.C. just inherited the cruddy Expos. Otherwise I have no attachment to the Yankees, the Astros, or even those spunky Red Sox (the curse ain't over yet, guys). This is the first World Series for the Cards since 1987, which they won. I remember because as soon as the last game ended, scores of students ran out of the dorms and literally partied out in the streets.

I just saw on the news that a small town school in Washington state has cancelled its Halloween activities, undoubtedly disappointing the kids. Why? A couple of Wiccans complained that the holiday cruelly and maliciously stereotypes witches! That's right, a couple of nincompoops with nothing better to do with their time wrecked things for the kids. No costumes, no cupcakes in class, none of the fun stuff, all because of political correctness. Just for once I want one of these spineless bureaucrats to stand up to this kind of nonsense, but they never do. All of the joy of living is slowly being sucked away because everyone is too darn oversensitive. Just because *you* think dressing little kids in pumpkin costumes will lead them to satanism or *you* have a chip on your shoulder against broomsticks and cauldrons doesn't mean the rest of the world has to buy into your neuroses! Get a life!
