Another trip to the newsstand
Apr. 8th, 2005 02:45 pmThe May ish of Premiere is out, with a very sexy pic of Anakin gracing the cover. There's a long article about ROTS, which features quotes from the usual suspects: Papa George, The Ricker McCallum, Hayden, Ewan, Natalie, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and assorted ILM employees. In the interest of helping the public make an informed decision as to whether to buy this issue:
The Good: Pretty pictures. Some we've all seen before, but they're nice to have in print. There's a saga timeline accompanying the ROTS article. Plus, in its summer movie preview section, ROTS ranks first as the flick to see. Premiere predicts a $400 million domestic gross. I think it's a good guess, but I would up that by at least $50-$75 million ;). The article is generally positive toward ROTS in particular. It describes the fight scene between Yoda and Sidious that's seen in the trailer. Apparently the editors got to see the whole scene and thought it looked great. The article lets Lucas and the actors have their say without being too snarky and mean. The article gives the impression that Lucas seems even happier with the prequels than he has been with the first set of movies.
The Bad: Once again they make the blanket assumption that the fans, i.e. all of us, hated the Special Editions as well as TPM and AOTC. There are the obligatory snipes at Jar Jar. Zzzzz.
The Interesting: Nat promises more spunk, sass, and lip gloss this time. Must be the pregnancy hormones ;). Lucas talks about some of the differences between the two trilogies and why he ended up structuring the saga the way he did. As always, Hayden has interesting insights and can tell you exactly what he's been doing all along with Anakin. He apparently got the sense that his performance wasn't going to be er, understood, while filming AOTC. According to McCallum, Hayden said at one point, "I'm going to be f*****." By fangirls, right ;)? Heh heh.
The official site mentioned a few days ago that Life, which is now a Friday supplement in some newspapers, was going to have an interview this week with costume goddess Trisha Biggar. I looked on Life's website to see which papers carry it; my local paper certainly doesn't. I saw that the Los Angeles Times was listed. Well, that's easy enough to find around here. No problem, I thought! So when I went to Borders to look for Premiere, I picked up a copy. The version I got though was the "Orange County Edition." Apparently, it doesn't include Life! So I checked another bookstore and a vending machine on the street...both were the Orange County Edition. This sucks!
