For some reason, this thought suddenly came to me this morning...why did Vader choose to hang on to life after dueling Obi-Wan? Here he was in agony, his body destroyed, and by all rights he should have died, yet his sheer will (not to mention the power of the Dark Side) kept him alive. Why? So he could fight Obi-Wan another day? Well, he took his sweet time doing that, didn't he? So that couldn't have been it. No, I think the prime reason Vader hung on was because he knew Padmé was still alive and needed him (so he thought) to survive childbirth. After all, she is the first thing on his mind once the operation is done. By the time he learns she is dead, he's already stuck in the suit.
Another observation...the last time I saw ROTS I thought I heard snatches of the funeral scene music just as Anakin tells Padmé post-nightmare that she is going to die in childbirth. I listened to "Anakin's Dream" on the ROTS soundtrack and sure enough, there it is!
Speaking of Padmé, I see that La Nat will take her first step into the world of fan geekdom by making an appearance at Comic Con, on Friday no less, the day I'm going. Even though it is SW Day, she is appearing during Warner Bros.'s presentation of upcoming films, including her new flick V For Vendetta. I'm torn on whether or not I want to take time out of my day (i.e. sit in Hall H all morning) to see it with the other stuff I want to do/see, especially since it's not SW-related. I have no idea if she'll take questions at all and even so, SW-related questions would probably be verboten. There will be a Lucasfilm presentation with Steve Sansweet later on and it's entirely possible she could make a surprise appearance a la Hayden Christensen or Carrie Fisher last year. But then again, Natalie has never seemed comfortable with SW fans and with ROTS over and done with, it's not too likely she'll magically change her mind now. The only SW question I'd ask is her take on why Padmé died. But noooo, she'll have to put up with fanboy marriage proposals and requests to recreate some of her scenes from Closer during the V For Vendetta thing instead. She'll probably run away and never come back.
As for the ROTS DVD, it looks like we're gonna get a Halloween treat...November 1! It's not official yet but that's the scuttlebutt and I saw on some Italian DVD site that they're getting it November 2. The Italian site says the features will include a documentary, two featurettes, trailers, t.v. ads, five deleted scenes, a music video (probably the same one as on the soundtrack DVD), and a Battlefront II demo. More details will be forthcoming. I'd bet dollar to doughnuts there will be lots about it at Comic Con.
Finally, I realized I haven't written an editoral lately. One may be forthcoming. Darth Media is still at it...I saw in Sci-Fi barbs at SW/GL left and right and in a new magazine called Moving Pictures there was an article that was largely positive about Lucas until it got to the prequels. It said that the movies he's made as a 61-year-old billionaire aren't as good as the ones he made in his thirties, quoting two negative reviews of AOTC as "proof." Guys, you had me up until that point. Grr.
