Han/Leia
"The hounds of love are hunting me"
Leia Organa didn't think she'd fled from anything so fast before in her entire life, as though the Emperor and Vader themselves were pursuing her. Anything to get away from the moment.
She found refuge, ironically, in the Falcon's cockpit. She groaned as she collapsed into the co-pilot's chair. Where does she go to escape Han but the very place that reminded her the most of him?
Her cheeks were still flushed, her heart was pounding. Catching her breath, she thought back on what had just happened. It was hard to believe that it couldn't have been more than a minute ago.
Yet her lips still tingled. His kiss had been gentle and warm but she felt it everywhere. The few times in her life she'd ever been kissed, none of them felt like this one.
What surprised her more than the pleasure she got from the kiss was her kissing Han back. Why did I do that? Was it a simple biological reaction? Or was it an expression of her own latent longings for him?
All she knew was that she gave in to his advances. She didn't push him away or slap him. She didn't follow up the kiss with a put-down or a sharp retort.
No, I just ran away.
Leia steeled herself for Han to come in at any moment through the cockpit door, ready to confront her. They'd trade their usual barbs until one of them would leave in an angry huff, tossing out a biting last word for good measure. But she remained alone in the quiet cockpit, the flashing lights on various panels the only company.
She relaxed as she realized Han was going to leave her in peace for now. She supposed he needed his own space for a while too.
Staring out at nothing--the asteroid cave was as dark as could be--through the cockpit transparisteel windows, her thoughts drifted to different scenarios from the three years they'd known each other. She recalled their quarrel on Hoth, everyone trying to ignore them, as they bickered. "Afraid I'd leave without giving you a goodbye kiss?" he'd challenged.
Indeed, what am I afraid of? Of all of the responsibilities she's borne since an early age, of all of the horrors she has endured because of the war on the Empire, why should she fear this the most? Was it being distracted from her duties and the cause? Fighting and defeating the Empire was the most important thing in her life. The destruction of Alderaan made it personal.
Yet her own parents, the kind and wise people who raised her as their own, fought against injustice their whole lives too and still found time for each other. Bail and Breha had been nothing but a loving couple, the very model of a perfect marriage. Somehow they were stronger together.
Could I ever find that with a man like Han? she wondered.
Still, something primordial, something she couldn't articulate, hovered at the far reaches of her consciousness. What is it? Fear he would one day break her heart?
A sadness overwhelmed her for a brief moment, then it passed. What was that? She blinked, then she refocused her attention on the darkness of the cave. Then she saw a flutter of wings...
