Kevin J. Anderson, whom I've met twice back in the 1990s, hasn't written SW in a long time but certainly didn't hold back in his opinions of Eps I-III at a DragonCon panel:

Granted, Anderson's continuity was blown out of the water with the prequels (much to the relief of people who don't like his books or the EU overall) but still...it's just annoying as heck. As are the usual bobbling of the fanboy heads. I'm grateful for people who
understand the saga; anyone who thinks there's no hero's journey in the prequels isn't paying attention or has no idea what the hero's journey (assuming it's based on Joseph Campbell) means. That panel was just a waste of time, really.
