Last night, I found this episode of "Wonder Woman" from 1979 where everyone's favorite Amazon must track down a jewel thief hiding at a science fiction convention. Seriously, that's the plot. In case you have any doubts about what event you're witnessing, they'll remind you several times it's a "science fiction convention." Perhaps fearing the legal demon dogs of Paramount and Lucasfilm, there are no Trekkies nor are there any identifiable Star Wars characters (though there is a guy in a vaguely Wookiee costume and some guys waving something that looks kinda like a lightsaber at one point). There are however "Logies," Logan's Run fans chasing each other around. The episode's writer was a big fan of the 1976 film turned briefly-aired series and tossed in a reference because he could.
If the jewel thief looks familiar, it's none other than Rene Auberjonois, the future Odo fated to do many real-life con appearances.
I used to watch "Wonder Woman" religiously but somehow I don't remember this episode. Oh well, it's a hoot, especially the final showdown during the con's masquerade. Wonder Woman passes for a cosplayer in her superhero gear, only they didn't use the term "cosplay" in 1979.
