One of the common mistakes that sets my teeth on edge is the confusion between "loose" and "lose." I don't mean a typo, I mean people who honestly think that "lose" is spelled L-O-O-S-E.

It's one thing though that "regular" folks get the words mixed up. It's downright infuriating to see alleged professional and quasi-professional writers make the same mistake. I can't tell you how many times I've seen on big name blogs references to "high heals." Shoes have high H-E-E-L-S. This is why you have to learn things besides wrapping a condom on a banana and bloating your self-esteem in school: spell check doesn't always cover your a-s-s.

The epic fail award goes to the Seven Sisters or Ivy League graduate working at Lucky magazine's Luckymag.com website who recently wrote about taking a "sneak peak" at some new jewelry. This isn't some kid on a message board or an office manager who blogs about bargain shopping in her spare time. This is supposed to be a professional writer who has professionals supervising her!

I may have graduated from a mere state university and a small Catholic school, but I do know that P-E-A-K is the summit or apex of something, while one takes a sneak P-E-E-K at new jewelry. But that's right, I didn't go to Bryn Mawr or Smith, so what do I know?
