With the oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico, unemployment, global instability, and other more important problems in the world, somebody has to comment on the trivial stuff.

Harrison Ford may have found wedded bliss for the third time, but it has been heartache for Hayden Christensen. Or maybe not, depending, heh heh. He and long-time snogbunny Rachel Bilson have "taken a break," ending their engagement and plans to marry this summer. I figured there was trouble in paradise; he and Bilson were almost inseparable for a long time and then all of a sudden, he went off to Brazil by himself for some junket and he brought his grandma to a recent fashion event in New York. Recent paparazzi photos of Miss Bilson showed the missing rock on her hand.

People who care about celebrity couples were saddened by the news while Hayden fangirls and Nayden shippers danced with joy. Sure, it's possible they could get back together. Pat Benatar broke up with Neil Giraldo before they got married and they're still together after 28 years. Jessica Alba broke up with Cash Warren, now they're married and raising their admittedly cute daughter. Elizabeth Taylor married Richard Burton twice. But if you need to "take a break" when you're supposedly madly in love and planning your wedding, the prognosis is grim. It means that either the relationship has run its course and the thrill is gone, or it means there's an external problem that put the brakes on proceeding further. Whatever the case may be, it's better they figured it out now instead of an expensive divorce later.

Hayden, if you're reading this and you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here for you.

It was on Us Magazine's web site just yesterday. She actually told them there were no plans to get married and held out her ringless finger.

I guess you could say "taking a break" isn't semantically the same thing as saying, "It's over." According to Us, those secret "sources" were saying that they were going to decide in a month's time whether to continue on or not. Who the heck does that? If there's problem this serious or you're already that fed-up with someone without being married to him, the romantic future doesn't look too bright.

I saw the "itz cuz he's teh ghey" posts too. Who's going to be somebody's beard for two years these days? It's practically a badge of honor to come out as gay or bi in showbiz now.

I have never seen any proof that Hayden is gay and I suspect that no matter what he does, he'll never shake those rumors.

Well, Katie Holmes being with Tom Cruise for, what, four years hasn't stopped the "beard" comments and jokes, with their accompanying "paid off" asides. (Of course, Saint Nicole Kidman never was and certainly never is accused of being a beard for her marriage to Cruise, which lasted WAY longer than two years.) In any case, the "gay" label was stuck to Hayden unusually early because of his alleged "boy band" looks.

Myself, I never even got the SLIGHTEST gay vibe from Hayden. (I'm not going to say my gaydar is infallible, but it's usually pretty accurate.) He could still surprise us. But it would be a genuine surprise.

I was always attracted more to the Anakin character than Hayden himself. NGL, HC can be gorgeous, but generally he's a bit skinny (and cigarette-loving) for my tastes.

That's definitely true about Tom Cruise.

Having seen Hayden chat at two cons, if he's gay, he's a way better actor than anyone would have imagined. He just doesn't give off that vibe. I think the label stuck because of his looks and because early on his career, a lot of the photo shoots he did played up his prettiness since a lot of the photographers involved were gay. Poor guy, though he's handled it well.
