I must be in a ranty mood tonight. Maybe it's because things are getting busy at work. Maybe it's because of the building stress of moving next summer. Maybe it's because SW Insider #73 hasn't shown up in my mailbox yet.

But I delivered the following on TFN's Jedi Council message board in response to some AICN rumblings about Mademoiselle Portman:

'Re Natalie...I think some folks in fandom don't "trust" her or don't like her because she's not perceived as being one of us. Add to that a perception that because she's extremely intelligent, beautiful, fashionable, etc. she must be stuck-up. (I could bring up anti-Semitism too, but I won't go there.) Maybe she reminds some fans of the cute girl in high school who didn't talk to anybody. She's not Mark Hamill, but so what? There are others who have come right out said stuff that I think is disparaging and even disrespectful to George. Believe me, I'm sensitive toward that sort of thing. But fans have said far worse things about her, unfair and mean things--without knowing anything about her--than the other way around. I've seen it all before with Carrie Fisher. There are fans who don't like her because of her acerbic sense of humor, because of her personal problems, because they didn't like Leia and thought she must be like that in real life, and so on. Bleah. Remember, AICN started the bull about Hayden getting dropped from Episode III, so don't believe a word they say.'

Then there was TFN posting the usual crap articles bashing the saga that feeds them, one an article about how the Imperial trilogy release on DVD was going to "test" the franchise, and another article with the requisite prequels suck/LOTR and Matrix roolz nonsense:

'Now what I'm about to say might get me banned, but what the hell.

I hate TFN (the main site). TFN has been the Al Jazeera of SW fandom, steadily undermining it and making it as unpleasant as possible for genuine fans for the past 5 years. It wasn't always like that, but now I seldom venture to the main site. If Lucasfilm were to shut it down tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear. I'm sick of their prequel-bashing, their actor-bashing, their Lucas-bashing, and their breathless worshipping of other franchises, especially LOTR. Just freakin' merge with OneRing.Net and be done with it!

Complain to the guys who run this site and you'll get a snotty reply about how they have to show "all sides." Right, mostly the sides that have nothing good to say about SW or anyone involved in it.'

I feel better now. Anyway, the new Behind the Helmet photo features what I assume is Anakin's artificial arm/hand prop. (For you trivia buffs, said item was given to Hayden after filming.) What's fascinating is the caption: "Though he feels surrounded by duplicity and betrayal, there are some things Anakin Skywalker trusts he can reply upon in the gravest of circumstances." Aside from the possibility Anakin's robo hand can do some cool stuff, I always figured Anakin would not betray the Jedi (as Obi-Wan says he did in ANH) unless he believed the Jedi betrayed him. I suppose Palps has a lot to do with it, but we'll see.
