If I were a rich girl...
Apr. 3rd, 2005 08:47 pmI'd have all the SW toys in the world, if I was a wealthy girl...
En route to a Ren Faire in Escondido, I stopped off at my local Target to get the last two figures I'm buying for now, since they're on sale: Slashing Action Anakin (eyeliner) and Jedi Kick Obi-Wan. I saw they had some Ultimate Villain dolls left for $39.99. I decided to think about it. Then I stopped off at a WalMart in Poway, where they had another one of those 48 Hours of the Force tents. Those were fun. WM should consider breaking them out again when the movie comes out! I also saw stuff I didn't see at the other stores. Take my advice...check different WMs, K-Marts, and Targets because I keep seeing things that weren't at the other stores. I found the Mini M&M Anakin dispenser and bought it. They had PinUSA's character pins that normally sell for $7-8 going for $5.95. I burrowed through them looking for the Anakin pin, but noooo, they didn't have it. Dangnabbit. Then I broke down and got the Unleashed Anakin. He looks like Courtney Love on a bad night, but he's my Growlykins, so I had to have it.
The Ren Faire was my first on the West Coast and while it's not on the scale of or as professional as the Maryland Renaissance Festival I'd attended annually for 13 years, it was still pretty good. This was a two-weekend deal, with a bunch of tents and stuff set up in a park. The entertainment was fun, with re-enactors, Shakespeare in 15 minutes, musicians, jugglers, and the like. Instead of jousting on horseback, there's war-gaming on foot. The battle I watched featured what looked like a bunch of Goth warriors trying to protect Ye Olde Hotte Topicke. Heh heh. There was a good selection of vendors and of course, the people-watching is always fun. Hey, what do you call a Ren Faire chick with Spock ears? An Elven maiden, apparently ;).
On the way home, I stopped by another Lord Wallace of the Mart and saw that they were charging $48.99 for their Ulitmate Villains. What, Target cheaper than Wally World?! So I dropped by Target again, realizing that $39.99 was the best deal in town and if I wait, it'll be gone. Sure enough, there was one left. I bought it. The guy at the cashier said, "You don't need a gift receipt, do you?" Nope! He must've recognized the fangirly gleam in my eye. I went by a 7-11 to get some SW scratch off tickets, but the store didn't have them.
