First off, I left my job today...because I got an even better one!

It's a long story. Back in January, I applied for a position with the county's d.a. office. In February, I had to take a test. At the end of March, just about the time I finished jury duty, I went in for a committee interview with like 12 people, all heads of different divisions of the d.a. office. In early April, I went for a second interview with the juvenile justice division. Then, I thought they forgot all about me. I kept applying for other jobs until I got my now ex-job the third week of April. Then the day ROTS came out, my mom told me the d.a.'s office called back. I called the lady who interviewed me and she told me I got the job...BUT they still needed to do a background check and once I clear that, I would have to go in for a drug test medical exam. Basically, this job would pay me more money, it would be closer to my house, I would get a ton of benefits, lots of holidays, as close to job immortality as you will ever get, lots of chances for advancement, and it would be very interesting work. I've never done criminal law before, but I've never had the chance until now. The only drawback is Juvvy Hall is in the same complex where I work (lucky me!). However the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages.

The background check took all of June and finally, I was all squared away by the second week of July. So my official first day is tomorrow, but all I'm doing is sitting through some orientation at the county mental health services building (!) for new county employees.

The irony is that even though I'm going to basically work in law enforcement, I'm driving around with expired tags. You see, when I got my registration renewal notice, it said the deadline to pay it was July 22. My tags expired at the end of July; so I assumed that if I pay up by the 22nd, they would send me the new sticker by the 31st. Right? Wrong! As it turns out, "processing" by the DMV takes at least four weeks! So why did they put the "deadline" to renew the 22nd? That's what I asked this girl at the DMV on the phone and she said, "I don't know." She told me my sticker should be coming next week, but don't worry, the cops can't pull me over if my tags are less than 30 days expired. They can, however, ticket me parked on the street.
