More cheerfulish stuff
Sep. 2nd, 2005 08:28 pmI keep forgetting to mention ROTS's astonishing run in Japan. It has been #1 at the box office there 8 weeks! I've heard it's closing in on Titanic's total, though I'm not sure what is the highest-grossing film in Japan, foreign or domestic. It reminds me of something I was told when I volunteered at the Magic of Myth exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum, to expect many of Japanese tourists because they probably love it even more than we do. (Yes, we did get a lot of Japanese visitors.)
They let us go early today at work so I went down to the mall to find a wedding present for someone at the office. While there I stopped by this store that sold all kinds of odd memorabilia and I found a very sweet Darth Vader stein, brand new! It's mine now!
When I got home, my sexy Anakin pic from Official Pix had arrived. That might go up in my cubicle, heh heh.
It's nice to see many SW fan sites carrying banners for the American Red Cross. One fan...the one featured on starwars.com in a knit Artoo cap at Comic Con...has knitted another one and she's auctioning it on eBay. 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund. Already there are 35 bids and it's up to $165. Go check it out:

Another good charity is Mercy Corps...92% of its donations go directly to its relief efforts and you can direct your donation to any effort you wish. I gave them money after the tsunami, so I can vouch for 'em:

Finally, here's a HOT new picture of Anakin, proving there's still something worthwhile in the world:
