Why SD was denied!
Sep. 7th, 2006 06:13 pmThe SDSWS board on TFN revealed why SD was dropped as the final stop on Lucasfilm's "Road Trip" tour. Lucasfilm contacted the Mayor's office and the city's tourism board several times to arrange for appearances at a variety of locales, and the bureaucrats blew it off. Understandably Lucasfilm could not spare the money and time just for a short visit to a hospital and that's it, so they cancelled. (They are however, still going to send swag to the Naval Hospital to distribute to kids. The local 501st and Rebel Legion might show up to help with the distribution.)
It's baffling to a normal person that a tourism board would turn down one of the best-known and respected entertainment companies for a chance to gin up some publicity for the city. You'd think that after all of the financial and legal scandals of the past couple of years, they'd leap at the chance to promote SD in a positive light. But nooooo…we don't want anything to do with those weird and icky SW people!
*Note: As a county employee, I can bash the city government all day long
