I received the latest SW Insider in the mail a few days ago. You know, just as it hit the newsstands everywhere else. It's billed as a Big Issue, the 100th ish complete with gold and silver covers. The main article was "The 100 Best Things About SW." Lists are lazy journalism anyway (or as I know well, lazy blogging) but this took lazy to the next level, because the 100 Best Things About SW is nothing but a rehash of the 100 most visited entries on starwars.com's Databank that was listed on the Homing Beacon e-mails! What a ripoff!

Listen here, Titan. If I'm going to pay for a yearly subscription, you need to fill those pages with content that I don't get to see anywhere else. How about stuff on Clone Wars, such as interviews with the folks working on it? How about articles on fan projects? How about craft how-tos?

Back in 1993 there were only a couple of novels out a year, maybe one comic a month, no internet content besides fan-generated stuff on Usenet, and a scattering of fan clubs around the country. Hasbro hadn't even revived the toy line yet. There was no starwars.com and no SW Insider. There were no blogs, no TFN, no fan films, no podcasts. There was no prequel trilogy and the Special Editions weren't even rumors yet. The last time there was SW animation on t.v. was in 1985. And I still managed to come up with enough original stuff to write about for my old quarterly zine Blue Harvest. Surely the paid brain trust at Titan can come up with at least a couple of interesting original articles.
