It's been said some locales at the Presidio are haunted. Last year on Sci-Fi's popular series "Ghost Hunters," the paranormal investigators found evidence of ghostly happenings at an old officer's club on the former site of a huge military base.

Well, when I was poking around Lucasfilm's main HQ at the Presidio one Sunday in January 2007, I experienced nothing spooky but I have to wonder if it's on top of an Indian burial ground because there has been some strange mojo going on there lately. To wit:

1. starwars.com hasn't updated since May 28, except to post the new Clone Wars trailer and this was after several other sites posted the trailer first. This is probably the longest non-holiday stretch the site has gone without updates since it first launched in late 1996. At first I wondered if the small staff devoted to generating content for the site was busy with Indiana Jones, but then the Indiana Jones site hasn't updated much either despite a brand new frickin' film in the theaters right now. With Star Wars Weekends happening now, Celebration Japan next month, Clone Wars in August, and The Force Unleashed in September, why are they slacking on the main site and on Hyperspace? The Official starwars.com Blog has been updating, but not with very much.

2. LucasArts, the gaming company, has been pink-slipping people left and right. They've already changed top dogs earlier this year and there are rumors it will outsource all of its gaming development in the future.

3. The strange "nuke the fridge" KOTCS bash fest by an employee on the starwars.com blogs last week.

4. My so-called automatic renewal for Hyperspace didn't renew! I'll have to check to be sure, but I think I might have already been billed for it!

Maybe I'm overreacting here but is there some kind of morale problem? Is there a big "reorganization" about to take place? Could it be with so many different, almost unrelated "events" in a row they're just stretched too thin? Is everybody burned out?

I don't know but last year, there were video reports from Star Wars Weekends. There's only one video uploaded on the Official Blog and that came from a fan. After months of hyping up a convention 90% of us won't attend, there's almost nothing until a Homing Beacon e-mail update today. I don't know if there are still things to be signed or what, but why haven't they made a bigger deal out of some of the actors coming back to reprise their roles in CW, even though some of these guys have confirmed their participation? After months of promoting The Force Unleashed, it finally has a set release date, yet we have heard next to nothing about for a while (LucasArts posted a new webdoc today). It's their job to light a fire under everyone's heinies to get jazzed for these events. I'll see CW in August regardless but what about the regular folks who aren't hardcore fans?

Anybody know any curse-busting spells?
