On Wednesday, I figured I needed to do something "normal," so I went to a McDonalds to try and look for those new SW toys.

I got a 4-piece Chicken McNuggets and apple dippers and along with that, got the Anakin backpack dangler or whatever they call those things. Not bad for a first try! I guess McD's is saving some money by using paper bags with their Happy Meals instead of the traditional folding boxes. On one side is Star Wars, the other side is iCarly, which I think is some kids' show on The Disney Channel. I'm assuming the iCarly promo is meant to interest girls. I'll have a point about that in a minute.

On Thursday, I went to another Mickey D's and got a hamburger/apple dippers Happy Meal (tip to dieters...don't get the fries and bring in a bag of baked chips or crispy rice cakes instead, save the apples for dessert). I looked in the bag and to my consternation, found an iCarly toy. Hey! They assumed that just because I'm female, I wanted the girly girl toy! And how could they assume girls wouldn't be interested in Star Wars? What the hell?

I went up to the counter and asked them to change it out for a Star Wars toy, er the "boy's toy," and got Yoda. That's better.

I've seen a lot of Star Wars fast food promotions ever since the first Burger King promo in 1977. Back in the day, nobody assumed you weren't interested in Star Wars glasses or cards or whatever because you were a girl. Every kid loved Star Wars and that was that. Now I have to tell people, "Look, I'm a collector, I want the Star Wars toys." So does every SW girl, of every age.

But I suppose it's even harder for a boy who wants the iCarly stuff ;).
