Awards Watch: ROTS Scores Three MTV Movie Award Nominations

Let's face it, the MTV Movie Awards is all about pure Hollywood crapola and celebrity suckups.  But as always, SW is my team and I want my team to win.

The bad news…MTV seemed more in the mood to celebrate sex comedies, Batman, and its slobbering love for Peter Jackson judging by its best movie nominations.  Of all the nominees, the only one I'd characterize as a pretty good movie is Batman Begins.  I haven't seen 40 Year Old Virgin but I found Wedding Crashers not nearly as funny as the hype made it out to be, King Kong needlessly too long (hey, that rhymes), and Sin City bloody awful.   And they even crammed in a nomination for sexiest performance for the hated flop Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo.  WTF?

That said, ROTS still got a respectable three nods:  best villain (Hayden…but no Ian McDiarmid, dangnabbit), best hero (Ewan), and best fight scene (Hayden-n-Ewan).  Unfortunately, I can see the MTV potheads voting for some of the other choices, like the now-annoying Brangelina in the best fight category (gag).  So we must counter People Magazine Nation and make a final stand for our beloved ROTS.  We did it for the People's Choice Awards and we can do it again:

Besides, fangirls, if Hayden and Ewan win for best fight scene, they just might kiss again ;).

The trophies are handed out June 3 and the show airs June 8 at 9 p.m., repeating a gazillion times thereafter.

All award shows are fake, to be honest. But I'd love to see Hayden get some love, then we'd get a zillion new pictures.

That's true about award shows... but also the whole online voting thing isn't real, they really give out the awards to whoever's able to come to the show AND be willing to make an ass of themselves onstage.

Good thing Yoda was available when he won in 2003 ;). Well, in that case, perhaps Brangelina will be too busy nursing their baby in the savannahs of Namibia to bother coming to the MTV Awards.

It's more of an assumption based on watching the show over the last ten years. The whole schtick behind MTV's award shows is "you never know what crazy things will happen!" but I can't believe that a lot of the "spontaneous moments" are not staged. All of the winners appear on the show in some way or another, and occassionally the acceptances are entertaining (like Jim Carrey's hippie act and the renactment of the kiss from "The Notebook"). Mostly those who don't win don't even bother showing up, unless they're presenters and essentially there to promote their latest movie.

Neither Hayden or Ewan have anything to promote at the moment, so if at least one of them is there, it's most likely for accepting an award :)

What's with the continuing smoochies on Peter Jackson's behind? Is this some attempt to make up for the fact that "King Kong" not only failed to outgross ROTS as industry types clearly hoped, but was actually a flop (when taking its production and distribution costs into account)?

Reminds me of how I feel about the Spaceys.... (the sci-fi/fantasy, etc. TV and movie awards given out by the Space network up here) Wish I could say, especially with "Sith" up for at least a few noms there, that I trust 'em to do what's right and actually *reward* it, really give it its rightful due....perhaps I don't trust them because they, too, have shown this disturbing penchant for the slobbering PJ-love which is just so sickening, it *always* makes me scream and recoil from the TV in fury whenever they start in on it yet *again*, ad nauseam....and what's more, to this day I still recall with venom and ire the way that one of the channel personalities snarked about the "Sith" trailer after the fact....*never* will I forgive them for BS like that, 'cause to me it just seems very indicative of their mindset as a whole.... *shrugs*

Still, though - do I hope the Spaceys will show some good common sense and *sanity* and actually bestow upon "Sith" what it *more* than darn well deserves....yes, yes, a *thousand* times over, yes, of *course*....but on the other hand, do I actually expect that they will? In other words, am I entirely counting on it? Not quite daring to hold my breath, am I, truth be told.... ;) Still, though, sounds like pretty good news about the MTV movie awards - vote on 'em extra for me, would you, since for some reason I can't get at 'em to vote from here at home....ack and argh again! :)

LOL at Hayden and Ewan! I know the MTV movie awards are dumb but I was glad when AOTC won best fight scene. So I'd be glad to see ROTS collecting some awards. ;)

ewan should sweep the hero category. i got confused at first tho, harry potter looks like he's holding a lightsaber in their pic...
