Last week's poll on the PT Holiday Special revealed that if anything there would be a segment where Padmé sings. In the hotly contested poll, Watto harassing Christmas carolers tied with Obi-Wan warning Anakin on poking his eye out with a lightsaber for second.

Nothing to do with the poll, but Carla and I watched the original un-special edition cut of "Star Wars" on DVD today to mark the 29th anniversary of the original UK cinema release date. We even put on the "Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century" cartoon beforehand.

...er...is that a geeky enough thing to do for the xmas hols!?! :)

Oh yeah, that's right, it was released much later than it was in the U.S.. Thank goodness there was no internet then, right?

yep, "SW" was a Christmas film here back in '77.

Things have changed so much in film distribution, even in the last three or four years! (I guess, in an effort to minimise the effect of DVD piracy). The 1970's were the dark ages, where it took films *forever* to move across the land, week to week, cinema to cinema. The original "Star Wars" didn't open in my home town until the end of January in '78 (when the film opened nationally across the UK) and played there for about 6 weeks...that print then moving onto another town....so my real anniversary of seeing it would be the 19th February, when my brother took me to see it. Arr, wonderful memories! :)
(that cinema is a now a bowling alley, but at least it didn't get knocked down).

Hope you all have a great new year!
Derek
