Starring: Asajj Ventress
Rated PG for Dark Side stuff
Based on 'Clone Wars', takes place right before the Obsession comics series
Asajj Ventress pulled herself to her feet, her body in pain and her clothing torn. Any other mortal being would have been relieved if not elated at miraculously surviving a fall on Coruscant but Ventress wasn't an ordinary person. She knew it was only her training in the Dark Side that saved her.
The very same technique she used to break her fall on Yavin IV, as a matter of fact. The bitter irony of it all tasted like blood in her mouth. It was the same foe who had sent her tumbling over the edge again. Ventress wished Dooku was there just so she could laugh in his face. The task of eliminating Anakin Skywalker was merely a fool's errand, one that damaged her considerable ego. It was Dooku's sick, twisted way of humiliating her, letting her know she was not good enough to be Sith.
It didn't matter she had given Skywalker a good fight on Yavin or that she'd cut a scar on his face with the tip of her lightsaber. He nevertheless defeated her twice.
Pride alone would've demanded retribution for her humiliation. But Ventress admitted to herself for the first time that she could not ever hope to defeat Skywalker. He wasn't like his master Obi-Wan Kenobi. He wasn't like any other Jedi. It wasn't because of his abilities which were already gaining fame and admirers throughout the Republic. She first saw his full-borne fury on Yavin IV but there was something she saw in his eyes this time after she threatened his pretty little Senator. It shook her to her very core. She who had no longer believed she was afraid. It was more than a goad than a true threat though she wouldn't hesitate to kill the Senator if it was ordered. But it was enough to bring out something darker and even more primal than even Dooku's presence in the Force. Could anyone imagine *that* one as a Sith?
Ventriss slipped into the dark alleys, glad no one on Coruscant's lower levels ever paid much attention to anything. Skywalker believed she was dead. She would be safe for a while, so she could heal and find a new focus for her hatred of the Jedi, Dooku be damned.
She did after all have a personal score to settle with Kenobi.
