Effective today, I hereby resign from Star Wars fandom. There are many reasons for my decision, which was not easy to come by. But they include:
1. Money.
Star Wars fandom has cost me approximately $7 million over a 31-year period. With that dough, I could've had a beachfront house and a Bentley in my three-car garage. My student loans would've been paid off a long time ago. I could've had all of the corrective surgery I needed to resemble a supermodel. I could've traveled around the world in luxury. But nooo, I had to go to Celebrations and buy enough stuff made in China to fund its military for years.
2. Time.
With the time I've spent on Star Wars fandom, I could have found a cure for AIDS, cancer, tennis elbow, and perhaps stupidity. Instead of writing about Anakin joining the mile high club, I could've written the great American novel, which could've been sold to Hollywood for millions, adding to the fortune I would've saved had it not been for fandom. And I would actually be working instead of writing on this LiveJournal.
3. Sanity.
Star Wars fandom can make you crazy. Whether it's stress caused by yet another flame war or people looking at you funny because you showed up for jury duty in your Jedi robes or pulling your hair out over the latest developments in a SW novel, madness takes its toll over 31 years.
It's simply time to accept that they will never make me COO Of Fun at Lucasfilm. Harrison Ford will never be my sugar daddy and Hayden Christensen will never be my boy toy. So it's time to move on. Over the coming week, I will change all of my icons to what will be my new focus: botany. In fact, my journal will be hereafter known as "Watching Grass Grow."
Thank you.

Date: 2008-04-02 10:03 pm (UTC)Would it be too terrible if I admit that my first worry was that we'd have one less paper writer for Saga Journal? The loss of the only editor to never miss a paper or a deadline even... :P And I would definitely mourn the loss of more Anakin mile high club stories...
