I Quit

Effective today, I hereby resign from Star Wars fandom. There are many reasons for my decision, which was not easy to come by. But they include:

1. Money.

Star Wars fandom has cost me approximately $7 million over a 31-year period. With that dough, I could've had a beachfront house and a Bentley in my three-car garage. My student loans would've been paid off a long time ago. I could've had all of the corrective surgery I needed to resemble a supermodel. I could've traveled around the world in luxury. But nooo, I had to go to Celebrations and buy enough stuff made in China to fund its military for years.

2. Time.

With the time I've spent on Star Wars fandom, I could have found a cure for AIDS, cancer, tennis elbow, and perhaps stupidity. Instead of writing about Anakin joining the mile high club, I could've written the great American novel, which could've been sold to Hollywood for millions, adding to the fortune I would've saved had it not been for fandom. And I would actually be working instead of writing on this LiveJournal.

3. Sanity.

Star Wars fandom can make you crazy. Whether it's stress caused by yet another flame war or people looking at you funny because you showed up for jury duty in your Jedi robes or pulling your hair out over the latest developments in a SW novel, madness takes its toll over 31 years.

It's simply time to accept that they will never make me COO Of Fun at Lucasfilm. Harrison Ford will never be my sugar daddy and Hayden Christensen will never be my boy toy. So it's time to move on. Over the coming week, I will change all of my icons to what will be my new focus: botany. In fact, my journal will be hereafter known as "Watching Grass Grow."

Thank you.

Geez, I actually thought you were serious. I was saddened to hear about you leaving SW but then again, I got a little excited because I was so ready to discuss botany/horticulture with you.
Silly!

Well, there is always room for another SW fandom (Botany of SW) Has anyone ever written exclusively about the flora of Star Wars? I am interested learning more about this. Of course, now that I think about this subject it probably is a bad idea. There is just too many fake EU plants.

Still above all, I thought this was a great April Fool's joke. You got me. :D

I don't think anyone has ever written about the topic. There are plenty of plants on Naboo, Kashyyyk, and Dagobah.

Oooohhhhhh, yes, quite true, and then there's Felucia as well with its pretty, pretty - I guess they're fungi-of-sorts, albeit on a ginormous scale unlike anything else ever before seen, and maybe enough so that we could probably classify them as plants....or quite possibly strange and alien trees-after-a-fashion, anyway.... ;)

Doh! Being no stranger to burnout of all types, I almost bought it. Almost. LOL.

Would it be too terrible if I admit that my first worry was that we'd have one less paper writer for Saga Journal? The loss of the only editor to never miss a paper or a deadline even... :P And I would definitely mourn the loss of more Anakin mile high club stories...

That indeed would be a most tragic loss. *g*
