A Missing Moment
Anakin/Padmé
Rated PG
During the "Destroy Malevolence" episode on The Clone Wars, Padmé and Anakin take advantage of a moment alone...
The turbolift door slid shut and Padmé exhaled with relief. She and Anakin were by no means safe just yet but they'd managed to escape the Malevolence's bridge before more battle droids arrived. She wasn't sure what Anakin had done at the ship's controls, but she didn't want to be aboard to find out.
Glancing up at her husband, she saw relief on his handsome features too. He then turned his gaze to her and the spark they'd felt earlier in the tunnel re-ignited. They both realized at the same moment that they were, save for a pile of destroyed battle droids, alone.
Throwing her arms around his shoulders, she said, "Now, where were we?" Wasting no time, Anakin leaned down and kissed her. This wasn't the inner sanctum of her penthouse on Coruscant or the fragrant gardens of Naboo. The small turbolift smelled of their sweat, grease, and burnt machinery. But none of it mattered. If fate decided that one or neither of them survived the day, it would not deny her one last opportunity to taste Anakin's lips. Time seemed to be suspended and the universe was nothing but the two of them.
The turbolift slowed then jolted to a stop. Anakin broke off the kiss, reaching for his lightsaber. Then they both heard Artoo's familiar beeps and whistles. Padmé brought herself back into the moment as she reached for her blaster. The door slid open and there was Artoo and--to her delight--Threepio.
"Threepio, what are you doing, don't just stand there," Anakin said with mock exasperation. "Let's get back to the ship!" He bounded down the corridor and Padmé ran to keep up with her husband.
"Always on the move," she muttered with a smile. Life with Anakin was never dull.
