First Shia LeBeouf spills the beans yesterday, now Frank Marshall confirms it today with EmpireOnline: they are working on an Indy V script right as we speak. No word on when they hope to have this thing done but they better not take another 19 years! We have a Grampy Jones as it is :O.
Who should be Indy's next nemesis, besides time? We've already done Russkies and space aliens. In the Making of Indiana Jones book, one idea George Lucas toyed with repeatedly but never used was the idea of a haunted house and having Indy play ghostbuster. With the popularity of all things paranormal these days, why not go for it? Maybe he can battle vampires or something. Everybody likes vampires. What do you all think?

Date: 2009-06-23 11:17 pm (UTC)it is one of the few times in the young indy adventures that deals with the supernatural realm, even though the adult indy films all deal with things beyond the normal.

Date: 2009-06-23 11:25 pm (UTC)* The Spear of Destiny
* Atlantis
* Philosopher's Stone
* Scrolls of Buddha
* Stonehenge
* Shangri-La
* Golden Fleece
* Zombies (although they might come up again)
* even the Crystal Skulls appeared in the Indy EU before Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
in the Indyverse, the Spear of Destiny was interwoven with the Spear of Lugh from Celtic mythology.

And yes, they ought to get a move-on. Ford turns 67 next month.

Date: 2009-06-19 08:37 am (UTC)Indy is all about the locales, so an Egyptian themed one could be quite cool. I know they've already done that in the Indy spin off materials, but it would be new for the casual moviegoer. Otherwise, there's a whole Earth full of countries they haven't yet visited. China ... the Pacific Islands ... Australia ... all have interesting archaeological histories.

Date: 2009-06-19 09:22 pm (UTC)Sci-Fi B-movies were the 50's equivalent of the Adventure serials of the 30's. There's a reason 'Raiders' was originally set in 1936. That's the era when those sorts of stories were told. If Indy's living in the fifties now, then the story genre has to reflect that.
That being said, Indiana Jones is an archeologist. How do you deal in Sci-Fi concepts but still have it tie to antiquity?
I've been thinking about time travel ever since Indy IV came out. An ancient relic, that is in actuality a bafflingly sophisticated piece of future tech. Part of a time machine in point of fact. Lost in the distant past, the result of a tragic accident, it has become the obsession of a fanatical ner-do-well who intends to harness its power and bend it to his dastardly ends. That is until he runs afoul of Doctor Henry 'Indiana' Jones Jr.
In true Indy style the villain would be destroyed by that which He/She covets, becoming essentially unstuck in time, existing in all points at once when they attempt to operate a technology far beyond their understanding. The villain's mind, unprepared for the sensory onslaught, would shatter and bleed causing death or severe brain damage. Which ever feels more appropriate.

Perhaps they're from THE FUTURE!!!!
Absolute bunkum obviously, but I really think there's a bloody good Indy flick in something like this...

Date: 2009-06-19 09:35 pm (UTC)Another unused idea in "The Making of Indiana Jones" was the "Monkey King" legend. I suppose, though, that I usually try not to speculate too much, the better to not wind up judging against those airy speculations...
