From my standpoint, Anakin would deliver his wrath on any guy who got friendly with Padmé. Nobody's getting between them, not some other dude, not death. Padmé wasn't giving an old geezer Senator a friendly hug while she's sufficiently bundled up in a complicated outfit. That was an insanely sexy dress and the gentleman is young and handsome.

That isn't to say I think Padmé was up to no good. She wouldn't cheat on Anakin in a million years. But the set-up definitely made Anakin jealous.
