They'd never do this on Naboo

This was posted on the Desiring Hayden forums by someone who is visited the Lake Como region where AOTC was filmed. It looks like someone bought the land where the meadow picnic scenes were shot and is planning to build there! Here's the post by "Eleanora":

I've just come back from Lake Como, where I saw all the AOTC locations, including the picnic meadow. I'll send you the pictures, but there is an urgent matter to be addressed: my guide told me (and I could see it for myself) that this location has recently been bought by a realter who intends to build houses there. A lot of people in this section of Tremezzo are protesting, but with no effect. If we can pinpoint this as a film location, constructions might stop. We need the support of a lot of Star Wars fans, who can send petitions to the major of Tremezzo, lawyer Mauro Guerra. This field is located in a specific section of Rogaro, a fraction of the province, of which I can't remember the name right now but I will soon, on the borderline with Griante, another province and different administration. The official e-mail for the administration of Tremezzo is: comune.tremezzo@tin.it. You must specify in the object column that the e-mail is directed to Mr. Mauro Guerra. As you very well know I'm Italian so I can send an e-mail once we have a substantial petition or I can translate individual e-mails, apart from my own, so you have my permission to give my e-mail to anyone who needs it for this.

Of course there is no e-mail left in her message, but if there are any other efforts to at least keep a little patch of the meadow for SW geeks in general and A/P fans in particular to visit, I'll let you know. Feel free to link to this entry to help spread the word.
