I've heard rumblings about this for a while, but now Lucasfilm hath made it official...the fan club is back to being run in-house, it's now called "Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club," and you get the Hyperspace service with your membership. All for the low, low price of $39.95 per year.
Quibbles:
1. Let's see them make good on perks for fan club members at Celebration III. The perks promised to fan club members for Celebration II were a bust, especially since most of the attendees were fan club members.
2. The Insider is back to a bimonthly schedule instead of 8 issues/year. I liked 8 issues per year!
Pluses:
1. They should have included Hyperspace access with fan club membership in the first place. We actually get to save a few bucks this way.
2. Of all the incarnations of the official fan club, Lucasfilm actually did the best job. If you want to do it right, do it yourself.
3. The Auto-Renewal option! No more worrying about when my last subscription is going to come. I'll get charged automatically each year so I can keep feeding my Star Wars addiction, til death do us part.
4. Discounts at the new online store. I just wish they had this available before I dropped fifty bucks on them over the past week.
American Idol watch: Tonight was a mercy killing. At last John Stevens is out of the competition. The poor kid looked scared as a bunny rabbit onstage and had to listen every week to everyone complaining about why he's still in the competition. Well, now it's over and now he can devote his time to repairing the psychological damage from competing in AI.
