Lost, photo exhibit, and so forth

I read an article today that "Lost" has suffered its lowest ratings yet since returning to the 10 p.m. timeslot on Feb. 7. Some are blaming the long hiatus, some are blaming the time change (you'd be surprised how many people hit the hay by 10 on a weeknight), some are blaming the lack of screen time for fan faves like Locke or Hurley this season, some are blaming too many loose ends not getting resolved, and some are saying any show that's not about doctors/lawyers/cops will burn out faster. Of all of those problems, splitting up the season was IMO the biggest mistake. Another problem? "Heroes." It doesn't come on the same night, but it has taken the crown for King of Weird T.V.. Fans are worried more about Hiro and the cheerleader these days than they are the inhabitants of that crazy island. "Lost" may very well have to make Season 4 its last and ABC may have to consider putting it on another night with a strong lead-in. I just hope ABC doesn't pull a "Gilligan's Island" and cancel the show before it can be resolved.
Since it's a three day weekend, they unleashed us early from work today. So I went back to the Museum of Art to check out that Annie Leibovitz exhibit. I've always liked her work even though I know diddly about photography and this features a mix of personal pictures, landscapes, depressing scenes from Bosnia and Rwanda in the 1990s, and of course some of her Vanity Fair work. There are lots of naked people, including some spork-worthy images of Leibovitz's companion, the late Susan Sontag. Yikes! There are also pictures of her father as he is dying and a pic of Sontag right after her death. The landscapes are cool, and to be honest, many of her pictures of family and friends were more interesting than of the celebrities. But a couple of her VF SW pictures are up on display, one of a battle droid, and another one of Artoo in his shipping crate. I think they came from her AOTC set of pictures. The gift shop had many of her VF shots in postcard form but not the SW ones. Darn licensing issues! But all in all, it was worth seeing.

What really annoys me is that Lost is losing against generic crime shows. To me, that feels like a victory for the status quo of medical shows, cop drams, and lawyer shows. Bah!

Date: 2007-02-19 07:36 pm (UTC)season 3 is tanking because the first half was almost all about Jack/Kate/Sawyer (wait.. they killed Eko, an interesting character) and could have been condensed into half as much space. they might be able to turn it around with the second half of this season, but frankly they might have lost too much ground already. last week's episode about Desmond was good, and the announcement that Charlie's supposed to die sets up some interesting stuff.
Lost was hot one day and not the next, because the quality definitely changed. season 1 was good, - season 2 was weak. season 3... weak start.. we'll see where it goes. perhaps they should focus more on the mystery of the island and not the mystery of the Others.
