While reading the Parade mag supplement that came with today's paper, there was a mention in its celebrity Q&A column of Natalie Portman launching a "vegan" shoe line. With celebrities from Milla Jovovich to Jessica Simpson to Sarah Jessica Parker to Jaime Pressley to Gwen Stefani (who probably started the current wave of celebrities/designers) putting out some sort of contribution to the fashion world, I often pondered what the heck was taking Natalie so long to jump into it. I mean, I would if I were her.

Now, she has teamed up with a fancy-schmansy shoe outlet called te casan for a limited edition run of shoes that are high fashion (and high-priced) but don't involve animal products. Unfortunately for the five or six fashion conscious SW fans out there, this bit of news slipped past most SW fan outlets so some of the shoes on pre-order are already sold out. But others are still available in limited sizes. Let's take a peek at the line, shall we?

I kinda like the flats and the red Mary Janes she's modelling, though I don't wear heels that high. They don't call me klutzypadawan for nothing!

It's just as well. The only vegan shoes I own are the sort you find at Payless. But for those of you with a lot of disposable income, at least you can feel good about the fact that Natalie is donating her cut to the Nature Conservancy.

$225!?

Um. Yeah. Sorry, they're all kinds of cute, but the most I ever paid for shoes was I think sixty bucks for my walking shoes.

I think the most I ever paid was $175 for a pair of dress shoes...but they retailed for over $300 originally ;).

Good cause, but those are a tad too pricey for my taste, and I detest high heels.

I have bought "vegan" shoes -- sandals, actually. They had a "negative heel," and cost $99, which is also rather pricey, but at the time I had some disposable income. Anyway, my mother said they were really cute, and I told her about the "negative heel," thinking it was something new. She said, "Yeah, they're called Earth shoes. They've been around since the '60s, but back then they were not nearly that cute."

I don't mind stacked or platform heels but ever since my late 20s, I haven't been able to even wear those if they're over 2.5" because they start to bother my neck and shoulders. I also have a problem with losing my balance easily. It just kills my mom because she loves heels but because of her age, she doesn't wear them anymore.
