Okay, so I wasn't jumping around throwing confetti after yesterday's Blu-Ray update. Maybe it would have been smarter to wow people with the quality of picture and sound they're going to get with this edition, as in, "This is going to ROCK on your HDTV! Go buy a Blu-Ray player now! They're on sale at Best Buy! Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

But even I got quickly sick of the peanut gallery whining and I wasn't even going out of my way to find it. I don't like the cover art. I won't buy it unless it's the original 1977 theatrical cut. I don't want to see Greedo shoot first. Wah wah wah. At this point, I'd make a version of ANH where I CGI in Dave Filoni, then have him shoot both Greedo and Han. That's how annoyed I am with the whole thing. There's nothing Lucasfilm can possibly do to make these people happy. Nothing. Honestly, I don't get why they bother to get up in the morning.

Buy the Blu-Rays, or don't. It's just that easy.

I agree, even if I'm on the fence about the whole thing. For me, it's a monetary issue. If there's significant SE-style updates, or loads of new deleted material (for BOTH trilogies, and not just the OT), then I'll buy it happily. If not, I'll just watch the cut scenes on YouTube until the price goes down enough.

Oh, damn! The "Han shot first" lot is the worst :((

Here's the thing I REALLY don't get about "Han Shot First"-- the idea that the added shot somehow makes Han's killing any more morally defensible. Since when was Greedo an innocent bystander?

Exactly! I've seen a lot of arguments about how Han shooting first makes his "redemption" more meaningful. Ehm... oookay :\

You know, even the phrase "Han Shot First" implies the expectation that Greedo would have shot Han, eventually, which pretty much negates the idea that Solo was an amoral badass for wasting the not-so-trigger-itchy Rodian. The very name of the movement against Greedo's shot more or less undercuts the central idea behind it. Functionally, there is NO difference between Han firing first or second. Either way, it's a matter of self defense. On that ground, GET OVER IT.

Aesthetically speaking, I will admit that I don't like the SE's addition of Greedo's blast, but not because I'm against the idea of him shooting first. Rather, it's because of the long-shot that Lucas inserts into the scene, where before you just had a bunch of quickly cut close-ups at the moment of fire. Ironic, in the original version, it took a moment to process what was going on-- with a flash of light, you didn't know WHO shot first until Greedo's smoking corpse fell forward. Until you see that, it could've been either of them. In other words, the scene does work better in the original cut, but for reasons that are diametrically opposed to what the "Firsters" espouse-- it's only a better scene if you actually believe that Greedo was going to shoot.

He's a damn bounty hunter, not just a patsy.

The only other jerkish complaint that makes my blood boil is about Anakin's ghost.

Oh, yes!
I'm a big fan of mythology, symbolism and metaphors, so Anakin's ghost makes perfect sense to me! :D

I'm not sure I was clear. I'm talking about the Hayden!ghost vs. Sebastian Shaw!ghost wank arguments.

Hayden!ghost makes perfect sense to me. :D

I. Don't. Care. Who. Shot. First.

I never have, and I never will.

I'm not buying the Blu-Ray set, because I don't wish to spend my money on it, nor on the purchase of a Blu-Ray player.

Which is behavior the whiners would do well to emulate.

WORD.
Han Solo was a cold-blooded jerk. Shot first or not.

LOL same old story... The more things change the more they stay the same, right? That's the Star Wars fandom for you. :P I would've been disappointed if no one brought the infamous 'Han shot first' thing... They'll never get over it.

I hear you, girl. Those poor folks at Skywalker Ranch just can win at any of this. What is wrong with all those fans, its like they need an excuse to be angry.

They say they won't buy it but they will. Just like they bought tickets to the "horrible" prequel films. If you don't want to buy the SE's, then don't buy it. But find a better way to waste your time than whining about it for the past 15 years. There are more important things in life.

Life? The fanboyz don't know the meaning of the word. Their idea of an important thing to spend their time on is whining, "Who are the Sith and what do they want revenge for? It's never explained in the prequels, and it's important enough to be the title of one of them! Why can't the movies have explained the motivations of THE MAIN VILLAIN?"
