Okay, so I wasn't jumping around throwing confetti after yesterday's Blu-Ray update. Maybe it would have been smarter to wow people with the quality of picture and sound they're going to get with this edition, as in, "This is going to ROCK on your HDTV! Go buy a Blu-Ray player now! They're on sale at Best Buy! Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

But even I got quickly sick of the peanut gallery whining and I wasn't even going out of my way to find it. I don't like the cover art. I won't buy it unless it's the original 1977 theatrical cut. I don't want to see Greedo shoot first. Wah wah wah. At this point, I'd make a version of ANH where I CGI in Dave Filoni, then have him shoot both Greedo and Han. That's how annoyed I am with the whole thing. There's nothing Lucasfilm can possibly do to make these people happy. Nothing. Honestly, I don't get why they bother to get up in the morning.

Buy the Blu-Rays, or don't. It's just that easy.

Here's the thing I REALLY don't get about "Han Shot First"-- the idea that the added shot somehow makes Han's killing any more morally defensible. Since when was Greedo an innocent bystander?

Exactly! I've seen a lot of arguments about how Han shooting first makes his "redemption" more meaningful. Ehm... oookay :\

You know, even the phrase "Han Shot First" implies the expectation that Greedo would have shot Han, eventually, which pretty much negates the idea that Solo was an amoral badass for wasting the not-so-trigger-itchy Rodian. The very name of the movement against Greedo's shot more or less undercuts the central idea behind it. Functionally, there is NO difference between Han firing first or second. Either way, it's a matter of self defense. On that ground, GET OVER IT.

Aesthetically speaking, I will admit that I don't like the SE's addition of Greedo's blast, but not because I'm against the idea of him shooting first. Rather, it's because of the long-shot that Lucas inserts into the scene, where before you just had a bunch of quickly cut close-ups at the moment of fire. Ironic, in the original version, it took a moment to process what was going on-- with a flash of light, you didn't know WHO shot first until Greedo's smoking corpse fell forward. Until you see that, it could've been either of them. In other words, the scene does work better in the original cut, but for reasons that are diametrically opposed to what the "Firsters" espouse-- it's only a better scene if you actually believe that Greedo was going to shoot.

He's a damn bounty hunter, not just a patsy.
